Vocational Adjustment Coordinator (VAC)
The term Vocational Adjustment Coordinator can be meaningfully divided into its three component parts.
Vocational
The Vocational Adjustment Coordinator teaches or coordinates the teaching of prevocational and vocational subjects designed
to prepare students for entry into school-to-career programs and on-campus or on-the-job training. The VAC provides a variety
of work experiences through the use of field trips, guest speakers, films, books and vocational materials in order to prepare
students for vocational placement.
Adjustment
The Vocational Adjustment Coordinator provides counseling and guidance for students to help them adjust to training programs
and/or work stations. The VAC reviews relevant vocational data with students and assists them in recognizing their vocational
strengths. The VAC develops personal, social and work adjustment programs which reinforce student strengths and reduce weaknesses.
Coordinator
The Vocational Adjustment Coordinator provides coordination for programming of individual students both on and off campus.
The VAC reviews the progress of students and works closely with the ARD Committee to write and review educational and Individual
Transition Plans. The VAC has the responsibility of coordinating the services of the public schools with the Department of
Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Mental Health & Mental Retardation Department (MHMR), and other community
resources.
